The unit applies to the cutting of irregular and non-uniform leather materials to specifications and workplace standards using machines, knives and interlocking knives. It involves the application of discretion, initiative and judgement while working to defined procedures and methods.

Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team activities.

This unit requires the application of skills associated with planning and organising to cut non-printed materials. Problem solving skills are required to ensure materials conform to requirements and identify any processing problems. Communication skills are used to refer to and complete required documentation. Self management skills are used to ensure safe use of technology and conformance of own work to quality standards.

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to cut non-uniform and non-printed leathers using machines, knives and interlocking knives.
